smoky house fire turned deadly in bucks county. >> happening today, expansion plans at philadelphia international airport take a step closer to actually getting off the ground. >> accuweather is tracking a chilly start the potential for gusty afternoon storms and then another big drop in temperatures. >> that's a lot going on david for you to tell us about and matt pelman is in foredone take a look at traffic. good morning. >> everything but the kitchen sink today. all right. this morning we're looking at a couple of light sprinkles and showers mainly up north. allentown might catch a little bit of that. less chance of seeing that in philadelphia and points south this morning but later today we're on the lookout for some of the shower activity to the west to begin to build through and during the afternoon we could even have a line of spotty thunderstorms come through. where those hit they could give us some problems with strong gusty winds. the national weather service is warning for gusty storms today. that could put some debris in roadways and we're being asked to tell you to secure trash cans and anything that could blow around in a sudden strong wind gust before you leave for

work or school this morning just in case those storms blow through in your neighborhood later on. 50 degrees in philadelphia right now, 44 in wilmington, 46 in trenton, 42 in allentown, 49 in sea isle city. so, a bit of a cool start. as we take a look outdoors to catch that bus looks like it will be cool to begin, 49 by 7 o'clock, 54 by 8 o'clock maybe a sprinkle well up north and partly cloudy skies with clouds building as the day goes on. 59 degrees by 9 o'clock by noon 66 degrees and then we are really going the shoot up to a high of 69 probably around 2 o'clock this afternoon but once those showers and thunderstorms build in, the temperatures will drop and by 6:00 we're down to 56. again, matt, the big issue today would be gusty winds with any storms that form. i'll show you those storms on future tracker six coming up. >> all right david. never a dull moment, that's for sure. good wednesday morning to you. good wednesday morning everyone. also never a dull moment on the traffic front but things are getting better here on the vine street expressway eastbound side we just watched the crews back up, pick up their cones here by the schuylkill expressway. so all eastbound lanes now

reopened. the overnight construction is gone. but this crash on the roosevelt boulevard is not gone and it's impacting both directions of travel near ryan avenue. that's where barbera autoland is on the southbound side. the crash happened on the northbound side. we're hearing a vehicle into a tree but they've got the inner drives blocked in both directions. stick with the outer drives. no major delays but we're keeping tabs on that. inner drives blocked on the new jersey turnpike northbound side between exit seven and 7a just the outer drive getting by. that's because of construction lasting until 6:00 and we have construction this morning in camden on the admiral wilson boulevard eastbound side by federal street taking out the right lane and a couple of those ramps connecting 130 to 168 still closed. that's until tomorrow morning. tam there thank you matt. developing this morning we learned overnight that a house fire in bucks county had been deadly, that it killed a man. erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center. she's got the very latest on this. good morning, erinism good morning, tam.

a sad story this morning. officials tell us that the 58-year-old man who perished in that blaze did live alone in his plumstead home and officials also tell us that this is an extremely complicated fire to fight and they did not find the body of that 58-year-old man until several hours after arriving on the scene. now, point pleasant firefighters initially responded to the home on the 6600 block of point pleasant pike shortly before 8 o'clock yesterday evening. when firefighters arrived on the scene there was heavy fire coming from the second floor and the back of the home. a short time later crews had to evacuate because of the deteriorating conditions. when it was safer for crews to go inside they searched for nearly four hours in very difficult conditions before finding the man. and their search was complicated by the collapse of the roof and the amount of belongings that were inside the home. >> a lot of difficulty. there was a lot of material inside the house and a lot of

things in the house so the fire had a tremendous head start, so we had to work aggressive to get ahead of the fire. >> now, the chief went on to say that he did not believe this qualified as a hoarding case but he said it was close and again, there were several belongings inside the home which made it very difficult for firefighters to fight but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. of course if we get any updates on this blaze, we'll bring them to you on 6abc and 6abc.com. >> okay, erin thank you for that. and two philadelphia police officers are on the mend now after getting into an accident while they were out on routine patrol. they crashed into another car at 21st and revere streets in germantown. authorities say the other car involved ran a stop sign. chopper six was overhead at albert einstein medical center as one of the officers arrived for treatment clutching something to his head but able to walk on his own.

>> ♪♪ >> happening today, the signing of a milestone agreement that will pave the way for a multi billion dollar expansion of philadelphia international airport. "action news" reporter eva pilgrim is live at the airport with the details. eva. >> reporter: matt, yeah, major announcement is expected here at the airport today that will allow a multi billion dollar expansion project to take off. at noon officials are scheduled to sign paperwork resolving lawsuits over the capacity enhancement program. that pairs the way for the massive expansion which includes a longer runway renovations inside and a people mover to get around between terminals. philadelphia tinicum township and the interboro school district had to come to terms over tax issues and land rights in order to make this happen. the projects will take at least 12 years and there there are other fades that are already in the works. we are live here at philadelphia international airport, eva pilgrim, channel6 "action news." >> okay, thank you eva.

it's almost 5:07. center city is growing by leaps and bounds. a new report says the number of people living downtown in philadelphia is now second only to midtown manhattan. the center city district defines that area as 7.7 square miles between girard avenue and tasker street and river to river. the greater center city population rose 16 percent since the year 2000 to more than 183,000 residents. two out of every five jobs in philadelphia are based in this area. >> a network of church congregations is calling for new jersey lawmakers to allow undocumented residents to have driver's licenses. hundreds of members of holy cross parish filled bridgeton municipal court last night. they were there to show support for a city council resolution that supports the state legislation. father vince guest says undocumented residents need to drive their children to school and doctor's appointments just like the rest of us. >> it's also very much a safety issue. i think all of us want our

roads to be safe and all of us, we're driving in our streets want to make sure that the person driving next to us is a valid driver, has passed a test, is properly insured. >> this city council meeting was held at the court last night because it's bigger. it was standing room only and many people couldn't fit inside the building. >> gusty winds and rain storms. >> yes, thunderstorms possible later on today. storm tracker six live double scan shows us we're basically dry and a couple of little sprinkles up to the north and west of philadelphia that we are still trying to get through. as we take a look outside we do have sky six in center city and we are looking at decent conditions to start out. a little bit cool. not a lot of wind out there but as we go later into the day, we are looking at the clouds thickening and then eventually some showers and some of those thunderstorms

popping through. as we take a look at the local view on storm tracker six once again, you can see that nothing going on there outside of the northern and western suburbs. it's one of those days where temperatures are really going to change. we'll see a cool start and then really climbing up into the upper 60's later on. and then those showers and thunderstorms come through and with that temperatures will really start to drop. starting out on the cool side, though. 50 degrees in philadelphia, 44 in wilmington, 42 in allentown, 49 in both sea isle and at the boardwalk in atlantic city. and winds right now not all that strong but when these storms come through where they hit they could produce strong gusts near the base of the storms. future tracker six showing you basically dry conditions this morning. there's the possibility of a little sprinkle or shower particularly in the northern areas. at 2 o'clock or so we'll be on the lookout for some of this stuff beginning to form out to the west. looks like the best chance of this is probably between 3 o'clock or 5, 6 o'clock coming through from west to east and obviously future tracker six is noting this correctly we would be looking

at strong gusty storms from philadelphia north maybe a little farther to the south. can't guarantee everybody sees these but those that do will see some of those strong quick gusts that could produce some debris on roadways and perhaps a couple of tree branches down. as we take a look at today's call in allentown, we are looking at mostly cloudy skies later on after some morning sun. a shower or a thunderstorm possible particularly through the afternoon and a high of 64. down the shore pretty much the same story. changing to mostly cloudy skies during the morning and early afternoon and then a late day shower or thunderstorm possible there 66 degrees is the forecast high. and in philadelphia we're actually going to shoot up to 69 right ahead of that cold front coming in. i could see this happening fairly early in the day, say 1:30 or 2 o'clock and then the numbers will dip back into the 50's by dinnertime and again that shower or thunderstorm chance during the afternoon with strong wind gusts. there you see what i'm talking about. by 2 o'clock you're up to 69 but by 5 o'clock all the way back into the 50's. for the phillies tonight, 57 for the first pitch, 52 in the ninth inning sole it will be

breezy and chilly. most of your rain probably done in time for the game. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high is 69 early in the afternoon. then we get that chance of a shower or a gusty thunderstorm in spots popping through. and then we start to dry out during the evening. breezy and cooler then tomorrow, 56 with a slight chance of a couple of spotty showers particularly up north and then brisk and cool on friday, 56 degrees and sunny and breezy, still kind of cool on saturday, 60 to start the weekend. 62 on sunday and then next week we start to inch those numbers up a little bit. by tuesday afternoon or evening there could be another round of rain arriving. >> okay, thank you david. it is now 5:11. developing this morning a rare sight in a south american country when a powerful tornado touches down with some deadly and devastating results. >> thousands of passengers on a cruise ship are back on solid ground. hear what it was like when they became is stuck at sea during a fierce storm. matt. >> now we're cruising along on the blue route this morning 476 just north of the

>> ♪♪ >> welcome back. you're taking a live look here out across philadelphia international airport. everything clear right now but david says take that umbrella. we will be dealing with some rain as we get into the later part of the day. it's 5:14, 53 degrees. >> what you got in traffic matt? >> i got some unpleasant stuff already at 5:14 on this hump day morning. good morning to you matt and tam. it's a crash on the roosevelt boulevard that we're watching impacting the inner drives in both directions near ryan avenue.

that's where barbera autoland is on the southbound side to give you a point of reference. we're hearing that the accident is blocking those inner drives both ways so the outer drives are opened for you. no delays at this point. action cam is headed to the scene. we'll get you more details and some live pictures before too long. but now let's get you to the suburbs with the suburban traffic report early on this wednesday morning. we're getting word of a new crash on the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. that's 476 northbound side approaching quakertown. the good news is the crash is off to the right shoulder so both lanes are opened northbound. southbound you actually have the left lane blocked but that's not because of a crash its because of construction. there's also some construction continuing on the east-west turnpike it's westbound by bensalem taking out a lane. the soap near willow grove has cleared. west approaching morgantown we have another zone that one taking out the left lane. let's go outside live, camera town in delco at painter's

crossing. heading towards britain lake no problems. let's do the commuter report using the waze app. so far so good as you travel through south jersey. emergency construction on 42 northbound. that's cleared this morning. no issues either on the jersey turnpike or 295 through camden county. tam. >> okay, thank you matt. this is developing overnight a tornado ripped through a southern brazilian city killing two people and leaving over a thousand people homeless. officials say they're still counting the numbers of those who were taken to the hospital with injuries. the vast storm blew through monday night locking down lampposts flipping cars and blowing off the roofs of homes. thousands of people on a cruise ship are thrilled to be back on dry land. it had been no fun as they roughed it out on stormy seas. the carnival spirit cruise ship was caught in that storm on monday night. video shows passengers watching out of their windows as 30-foot waves and 60 miles

between julie and thorn lanes. mass transit on time this morning. you like apple road david. >> absolute i like apples, apple payment we're in the 50's this morning and staying in the 50's by 9 o'clock. 59 degrees there. getting up to 66 by noon. clouds increasing as day goes on and the center of precipitation today is going to be in the afternoon hours. we'll actually get up to a high of 69 ahead of an arrival of showers and thunderstorms. any storms that form today could be gusty and the best chance would be between about maybe 3 o'clock and 5 o'clock from west to east. by 6 o'clock 56 degrees. still a lingering shower possible there. wide view across the country not a whole lot of super severe weather maybe some gusty storms in the south and also up around here and as we take a look at current conditions at the airport hoping for all green aircraft which would indicate no major delays. that's what we've got and no sign of rain right now in any of our most commonly traveled destinations, tam. >> thank you david. new research suggests that trying to do something called

mindfulness meditation could really help you. there's more evidence that it can be a real alternative to antidepressant drugs. the study involved people who had been on medication for years. part of the group maintain the drug therapy the other group incorporated mindfulness based cognitive therapy which taught them to disengage if negative thoughts. after two years researchers found the patients receiving the mindfulness therapy were able to wean themselves off of antidepressants. >> a problem on a popular line of bikes could lead to the rider being tossed to the ground. details on america's mon. >> topping america's money a major recall from one of the world it's type bicycle makers. >> trek recalling nearly a million bikes after an injury that left one rider paralyzed. the problem is with a lever on the bike's front wheel which could interfere with its brakes. >> california will get its first shake shack next year. the trendy burger chain has restaurants in new york, washington, chicago even dubai but not california. >> not california because the

>> the pen felt phase of the boston marathon bombing trial continues today. the prosecution showed an image yesterday of dzhokhar tsarnaev making an obscene gesture at a security camera whilely in a a court holding cell in july 2013. they also called witnesses who lost legs or loved ones in the bombings at the race two years ago. tsarnaev's defense has decided to wait until next week to present its testimony. police are looking for two men suspected of using a rifle during a robbery in philadelphia's society hill. newly released surveillance shows the pair inside a nightclub on april 10th. they boarded a white suv and followed the victim from the night club parking lot to his house on the 300 block of fifth street. the robbers approached the victim in his garage with what
